MAIS QUI DONC A VIOLE LINDA?
BUT WHO RAPED LINDA?
Directed by J.P. Johnson
Marie France (Alice Arno rn: Marie France Broquet) is engaged to work on an island in the Mediterranean. The job is to attend to Linda, the crippled daughter of the sadist Radeck (Paul Muller), another daughter (Lina Romay) is a nymphomaniac. A mute servant serenades the villa with a melancholy song as the fantasies of the highly dysfunctional family merge into a heated delirium. Radeck has murdered his wife (Monica Swinn) and her lover, as is revealed in a series of flashbacks. But that was only the beginning of a deadly cycle. A police agent (Rick DeConninck) and a scandal sheet photographer (Catherine Lafferierre) spy on the crime scene from a distance, but they cannot intervene in time to stop a final tragedy.
One of 12 [!] films JF made in 1973 and another no-budget masterwork, a true film-maudit featuring excellent performances, a haunting score and cubist compositions which often employ mirrors to open out the claustrobic spaces into odd dimensions. Is it a comedy, a tragedy, a crime thriller, a mystery or a dream? Actually, it all is revealed to have been generated by a "novel" by "David Khunne" during a nap. Time, space and cinema are played with freely by the director, whose real name is nowhere to be found in the credits of any of the numerous versions.
The English language version EROTIC DREAMS is a come-on for phone sex: "Olga shows her bottom-ooo 509 509 5-059!
The French hardcore version, prepared for that market by Eurocine, contains a lot of XXX inserts which may or may not have been filmed by Jess Franco including the ravishment of the title character by a banana! This version omits the survelliance subplot and other footage, including several murders to make way for the hardcore.
Some of the footage in this version was redubbed and used in the opening credits of Franco's TENDER AND PERVERSE EMMANUELLE (1973).
aka LES NUITS BRULANTES DE LINDA/ BRUTAL NIGHTS OF LINDA [hardcore version]..
Try to find the English language version or the Spanish dubbed version [onscreen title BUT WHO RAPED LINDA?].
Unfortunately it's difficult to see this in English and its 2.35:1 OAR.
I'll have a lot more to say about the various versions in future blogs.
Thanks to Francesco Cesari [erostv.com version] and Eric Cotenas.
