Spanish actor, director, screenwriter and performer Ricardo Palacios died of heart failure in Madrid, Spain on Wednesday February 11th. He would have been 75 on March 2. He was born Ricardo Lopez Nunoz in Reinos, Cantabria, Spain. I first became aware of him when I saw him as the Tucumcari bartender in For a Few Dollars More. Trying to avoid Col. Mortimer's question about Guy Callaway. Then when Mortimer grabs him by the shirt front he looks skyward and says he wouldn't know where he'd be today. From that point on I would enjoy seeing the rotund character actor appear in 29 other European westerns. He played Mexican bandits, soldiers, doctors, townsmen and gang members. His roles were seldom large but he was always a treat to see. I'll never forget his performance as Polk in Comin' at Ya! being left alone tied up and rats crawling all over him before being rescued by his brother Gene Quintano. Truly one of the great Spanish character actors he was also seen in several Jess Franco films and was a screenwriter and director in his own right. You will be missed amigo and you will never be forgotten. RIP.
